Installing QGIS on Ubuntu

The easiest way to install QGIS on Ubuntu is using the ubuntugis (stable) PPA.

Adding the PPA to your System

(If you've read my Installing GDAL/OGR on Ubuntu post, you can skip this step.)

Do this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntugis/ppa && sudo apt-get update

Hit "enter" when prompted.

Installing QGIS

Do this:

$ sudo apt-get install qgis

This will grab any dependencies you might need, and then install the latest version of QGIS.

That's it! Easy.
